OutliersAdd to Chrome

A free Chrome extension for Instagram and TikTok research

Find the Reels that broke out.

Some Reels travel far past a creator's own audience. Outliers helps you spot them. Open any profile's Reels, press Run, and see only the scanned videos with at least 5× more views than followers, sorted and ready for your swipe file.

Demo

Real Reels, replayed.

Press Run Outliers Scan. A website can't scan Instagram for you, and Outliers never sends your research to a server, so this replays a real snapshot of the profile's Reels, checked against the extension's own export and ranked with its exact rule.

Show

This snapshot holds views. The extension also sorts by likes, comments and engagement rate.

The panel reads the profile's follower count and states the exact view count a Reel needs. In 5× Outliers that's five times the followers. Min Views and All work without a follower count.

Choose how far it scrolls, from a quick look at recent Reels to All. The scan stops at exactly that many, and Stop ranks what's been collected. A new limit applies to the next scan, after Reset.

Show 5× Outliers, the Reels over a Min Views bar, or All of them, and sort highest or lowest first. Both apply at once, even mid-scan, without scanning again. The extension also sorts by likes, comments and engagement rate (and on TikTok, shares, saves, post date and length); this snapshot holds views only.

Each Reel with the number it's sorted by up front, then its views and multiple of followers. The page shows the same list as a grid of cards. In the extension, each row can also be saved to your Library.

Download the list as a CSV with every metric for Sheets or Excel, or copy it as a plain-text report. The extension's Share button also makes a story card and copies a caption or the top 5 links.

Features

Everything in the side panel.

Outliers 1.1 in 36 seconds, made from @heyrostyslav's own Instagram and TikTok numbers.
  • Sort · new in 1.1

    Sort by any metric

Views, likes, comments, engagement rate or views ÷ followers, highest or lowest first. On TikTok, also shares, saves, post date and length.

  • Show · default

    5× Outliers

Only the videos with at least five times more views than the account has followers: the ones that travelled far beyond their own audience.

  • Show

    Min Views

Prefer one fixed bar? Set it anywhere from 1,000 to 1,000,000 views and use it on every profile. No follower count needed.

  • Show · new in 1.1

    All

Press All under Show to skip the filter and list every video you scanned, sorted by the metric you pick.

  • Results · new in 1.1

    Change it, no rescan

Switch Show or Sort by and the side panel's results update at once, even mid-scan. After the scan, so does the grid of cards on the profile. On Instagram, open a card and the Reel viewer's arrows step through the list in that order.

  • Platforms · new in 1.1

    TikTok, too

Run it on tiktok.com/@handle profiles as well as Instagram Reels, yours or anyone else's. TikTok access is optional: press Turn on TikTok once and Chrome asks for it.

  • Scan

    As deep as you like

Set a scan limit from 1 to All, and Outliers scrolls the profile's grid for you, stopping at exactly that many. Stop keeps what it has found so far.

  • Keep

    Your Library

Save the videos worth studying. Your Library stays in Chrome on this device, and exports as a CSV any time.

  • Share

    Export, copy, share

Download a CSV with every metric for Sheets or Excel. Copy a caption or the top 5 links, or save a story card of the top 5.

Setup

Three steps, then you're researching.

  1. Add it to Chrome

Install Outliers free from the Chrome Web Store, then pin it to your toolbar so it's one click away.

  2. Open a profile

Visit any profile you can see, a competitor's or your own: an Instagram Reels tab, or a TikTok profile at tiktok.com/@handle.

  3. Click the icon, press Run

The side panel reads the follower count and shows the bar. Press Run Outliers Scan. Outliers scrolls the Reels for you and ranks what clears it.

Privacy

Private by design.

Outliers runs inside your browser tab. There's no Outliers server, so your research has nowhere to go but your own browser.

This website is different: it counts visits and button clicks with cookieless analytics. The extension sends it nothing.

FAQ

Asked, answered.

Is it really free? Which browsers?

It's free, with no account, no trial and no paid plan, and its code is on GitHub. It's built for desktop Google Chrome and uses Chrome's side panel. If Instagram or TikTok asks you to log in before showing videos and their counts, log in first.

Does Outliers collect my data?

The extension doesn't. It has no server, no account and no analytics, so your research never leaves your browser. This website does count visits and button clicks, with cookieless DataFast analytics. The privacy policy has the details.

Does it work on TikTok?

Yes. Open a profile at tiktok.com/@handle and run it the same way. TikTok access is optional: the first time, press Turn on TikTok and Chrome asks you once.

Why is the Run button greyed out?

5× Outliers needs the profile's follower count, so Run waits until Outliers reads it. Min Views and All don't need it. Open a profile and the panel picks it up by itself, checking again while the page loads. If it still won't unlock, scroll to the top of the profile so the follower count is showing, or refresh the tab.

It says no Reels qualified, but I can see Reels.

Usually that means nothing in the scan cleared the bar, and the panel tells you which bar it used. Switch Show to Min Views or All, which applies at once, or raise the scan limit and scan again. If the tiles don't show view counts, Outliers can't read them. Make sure you're on the Reels tab rather than Posts, refresh, and run again.

Can I change the filter after a scan?

Yes. Show (5× Outliers, Min Views or All) and Sort by apply at once to the videos you already scanned, in the panel and on the page. To scan further, raise the scan limit, press Reset, then Run.

It scanned fewer Reels than my scan limit.

The scan stops at exactly your scan limit, or sooner when the profile runs out of videos or you press Stop. The results header always shows how many were actually scanned.

Does it sort by likes or comments?

Yes. Sort by views, likes, comments, engagement rate or views ÷ followers, highest or lowest first. On TikTok you can also sort by shares, saves, post date and length. When a creator hides likes, they show as — and sort last. Choose All under Show to list every scanned video without the outlier filter.

Where do saved Reels go?

Into your Library, kept in Chrome's local extension storage on this device. There's no cross-device sync. Export the Library as a CSV any time.
